PWC Panthers Family,

If you are like me, you are being flooded by communications from schools, institutions and companies detailing their responses to the coronavirus. The challenge that this outbreak represents to our family and community is unlike anything that I have seen before. All of us currently find ourselves having to process our way through uncertainty, understandable anxiety and heightened risk. God willing, the world will return to normal; prayfully, sooner rather than later.

What is most important now is that we stay safe and healthy. To that end, PWC Panthers Track & Field Club has consolidated important information about the coronavirus to include national, state, local and the club’s responses here on this resource page. Feel free to contact me if you have questions about the club’s way-ahead in response to this epidemic.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

A.  What's COVID-19? (Saturday, May 2, 2020 06:18 PM)

The CDC defines COVID-19 as a disease caused by a new type of coronavirus (or “novel coronavirus”). The virus that causes COVID-19 belongs to a large family of viruses that are common in people and different animal species. On rare occasions, animal coronaviruses can infect people, and then spread from person-to-person. This is how the COVID-19 virus started. People with COVID-19 can have a wide range of symptoms that can range from mild to severe.

Symptoms may include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills or repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

B.  COVID-19 Guidance (Tuesday, March 24, 2020 04:14 PM)

All are encouraged to follow Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH) guidelines on preventing the spread of germs and respiratory diseases.  These recommendations include:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol if soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Stay home from school or work if you are ill, especially if you have a fever or cough.
  • Practice social distancing: remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.
  • During the next 15 days starting Mar 16, 2020, all U.S. events of 10+ people should be cancelled or held virtually.

If you are feeling ill with flu-like symptoms that include a fevercough, or shortness of breathAND have traveled to a Level 3 travel advisory country OR have been exposed to someone sick with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, you should contact your healthcare provider or local hospital emergency department PRIOR to arriving at the facility. Upon making contact prior to your arrival, report your travel history or contact and symptoms to medical personnel so they can prepare for your arrival.

PWC Panthers Information

NOTE: This is an emerging, rapidly evolving situation and PWC Panthers will provide updated information here as it becomes available.

A.  Cancellation of Season (Friday, June 5, 2020 9:02 PM)

PWC Panthers Track Club team training is canceled for the remainder of the 2020 Outdoor Season.  The gradual reopening of Northern Virginia and cancellation of all AAU events in the state and region have left no opportunities for training and competition.  The timeline for progressing to each phase of reopening is determined by monitoring health data.  It is unknown when Northern Virginia will reach Phase Three, which is the safest phase for resuming group activities with our student-athletes.  As a result of the ongoing developments of the Coronavirus, PWC Panthers Track Club team training is canceled for the remainder of the 2020 Outdoor Season.

B.  Track Meet Schedule Changes (Friday, June 5, 2020 9:16 PM)

Effective March 18, 2020, the AAU National Office suspended all AAU Sanctioned events while a review of the effect of the Coronavirus Pandemic on regular sporting operations was conducted to determine as to how to proceed. On May 1st, the AAU National Office began evaluating lifting the temporary suspension of AAU events in certain areas of the country. The first phase of re-opening AAU event programming will only apply to select locales where and when it has been deemed safe to do so. In order to resume AAU event programming in a particular area of the country, federal guidelines, and state, county and local municipality regulations must be met.

On May 15th, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Hampton Roads Sport Commission (HRSC) decided that the 54th AAU Junior Olympic Games will not be held in Virginia.  Subsequently, all remaining scheduled events in the state and region were canceled.

C.  Membership Requirements(Friday, June 5, 2020 9:34 PM)

Registration Fee Information
As a result of the cancellation of the 2020 Outdoor Season, fees for the season have been canceled.  On April 4th, refunds were issued to all members who submitted payments.  Please contact the Club President ( if you have questions.

D.  Suspension of Training (Friday, March 13, 2020 10:00 AM)

Effective March 12, 2020 at 8PM, PWC Panthers Track Club team training is temporarily suspended until further notice.  As a result of the ongoing developments of the Coronavirus, Prince William County Schools have cancelled all community usage of its facilities and Prince William County Parks & Recreation has cancelled all sports leagues usage of its parks and centers.  This has left us without a location to train.  PWC Panthers Staff continues to monitor local responses and policies and ongoing developments related to the Coronavirus; and hopes to resume training soon.  In the interim, PWC Panthers Staff is developing online instructional aides for our athletes to perform training at home.  Stay tuned for more information.
